Thanks to UNSW Bookshop for their generous support!

UQ Easters 2009
Friday, 17 April 2009

Through Thursday 9 - Monday 13 a contingent of loyal debaters banded together for debating glory. We braved obnoxious train rides, overpriced airfares and extensive road tripping to be there. Alas, our struggle was not for nothing; congratulations to UNSW 1 (Su-Min Lim, Alex To and Ben Williams), who broke 7th and made the Quarter Finals, unfortunately losing to eventual champions Sydney 1 by the narrowest of margins.

Congratulations also to Ben for winning 4th best novice speaker! Our contingent had several excellent speaker scores, including Vishaal Sharma, Anh Tran-Nam and David Maher.

And congrats to UNSW 4 (Dave Maher, Emily Rumble and Paulette Lo), who with 4 wins missed the break by a mere 1.33 speaker points.

UQ Easters followed a fairly simple formula of debating + bountiful bar tabs + socials + room parties + pineapples. It’s very hard to fault such pure mathematical genius. Despite sleep deprivation and the truly awful campus coffee cart, we all managed to soldier on and kick debating ass. We dominated on the dance floor, we won the fashion stakes (Project Runway wishes it had such swanky debating shirts) and our contingent conquered the Chopstix corkage policy.

Also, a huge thank you to Arc for providing subsidies to contribute towards registration fees! Their support helps keep our participation in Tournaments affordable!
